MP COLUMN: Incredibly exciting news for the region
As Christmas and New Year approach we can reflect on what has been an extremely difficult year for us all.
I would like to thank each and every one of the people in Wansbeck for your patience and resilience throughout this past year, as well as your generosity and solidarity to one another in times of need.
Although this has been a uniquely tough year, I believe there are still moments to look back on that ought to make us proud.
My mind is cast back to the incredible show of togetherness on display during the October half term when people and businesses in the community rallied together to ensure no child would go hungry while off school, as well as the support shown to our NHS on doorsteps up and down the country as they tackled the pandemic head on.
There are also some things to be optimistic about.
We can finally see a ticket out of the pandemic as a vaccine is finally being rolled out across the country.
There is also the good news that Britishvolt have picked the Energy Central site in Cambois in Wansbeck to station their new gigaplant, bringing the prospect of thousands of new quality jobs to our region. Although it is still in its early stages this is incredibly exciting news for the region at a time when it needs it most.
On this hopeful note, please continue to stay safe and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
