A few days ago, it was announced that more than 20 million people have received a COVID-19 vaccination which is a phenomenal achievement by all involved.

It is quite incredible that the first vaccine was given less than three months ago on December 8, so it is little surprise that the teams across the UK are delivering the largest and fastest British vaccination programme in history.

I would like to thank everyone that has played a part in this fantastic national effort including NHS staff, volunteers, and the Armed Forces.

It is also important to thank all that have had the vaccine when they have been called as it is critical to look after yourself and your community.

The Government’s strategy throughout the pandemic has been to suppress coronavirus as much as possible until a vaccine could be found to protect us.

The scientists were supported from the outset and they have now come to our rescue with the rapid vaccination roll out that has followed allowing the Prime Minister to set the road map out of lockdown over the next few weeks and months.

That the end is in sight in terms of the current lockdown is something I welcome as it has been challenging for us all particularly with the dark days of winter to also contend with and the limited opportunities to get out and about.

I look forward to something much closer to reality being just around the corner for all of us in the country as we head into spring then summer.
