Pop up shop to give road safety info

A pop up shop has arrived at a county shopping centre to provide information on the dangers of the road.

Road Respect is to highlighting a number of key issues, such as speeding, drink driving and the use of mobile phones behind the wheel, and is at the Keel Row Shopping Centre in Blyth.

Visitors will be invited to take part in an interactive quiz, giving entrants the opportunity to win a GoPro camera by matching crimes with their respective punishments.

Drink driving simulators are set up to highlight the dangers of driving under the influence, while beer goggles show how well people function when they feel extremely drunk.

Playing Giant Connect 4 and Giant Jenga games wearing the beer goggles also show how difficult simple tasks can be when under the influence.

Free information, giveaways and balloons are being provided and everyone is being encouraged to join the interactive iPad quiz in store.

Centre manager Callum Reid said: “It’s great to have Road Respect in the centre, they’re doing some excellent work educating the public on road safety and showing how impaired we can be behind the wheel with the influence of alcohol and through using our mobiles.”

“I’d like to encourage everyone in Blyth to come along and learn for themselves,” he added.
