Price changes for leisure facilities

Active Northumberland has announced changes to leisure provision across the county including investment plans linked to the introduction of a new pricing structure.

From June 1, customers can use leisure facilities county-wide as the new membership allows unlimited access to 13 gyms, ten swimming pools and over 350 fitness classes per week.

The main changes include:

n A new county-wide £40 per month multi-site membership allowing anytime use, including use of the gym, fitness classes and swimming, at any Northumberland leisure centre.

n A new county-wide £30 per month multi-site membership allowing daytime use (before 4.30pm) of the gym, fitness classes and swimming at any Northumberland leisure centre.

n A new county-wide £24 per month multi-site swimming membership allowing use of public swimming at any Northumberland leisure centre with a pool.

n A 20 per cent discount on all monthly membership deals for juniors and full-time students.

The new leisure centre being built in Ashington is due to open in October, and in Cramlington there are plans for a refurbishment of Concordia Leisure Centre to improve its facilities and to accommodate the library and customer information centre, including developing a purpose-built stand-alone indoor cycling studio, and a ten-lane ten pin bowling alley.

Coun Grant Davey, leader of Northumberland County Council, said: “The creation of Active Northumberland enables us to protect and enhance leisure services and facilities for our communities and visitors.”

Before Active Northumberland took over leisure services, there were four different leisure operators, each with different price structures.

By buying an Active Northumberland card, leisure users can receive up to a 25 per cent discount on pay-as-you-go prices; gym prices are now capped at £5.60 and fitness classes at £5 a session across the county for card holders.

There are also discounts on ‘pay as you go prices’ for juniors and full- time students.

The new concessionary direct debit daytime multisite membership is £24 for adults and £19.20 for juniors/students.
