Proms night a roaring success

A MOST marvellous ‘Last Night of the Proms’ evening held at Blyth School Community College on September 22 raised £1,143.

The concert, organised by the Blyth Branch of the Royal Victoria Infirmary League of Hospital Friends, was very well attended and the musical performances by the Backworth Male Voice Choir, soloist Susan Robertson together with the Jayess Newbiggin Brass Band, were much appreciated and enjoyed by all present.

The finale, where singing and flag waving were in evidence, was the culmination of a fine musical evening.

I would like to thank those who attended, those who gave donations, those who donated prizes for the raffle (yellow ticket 465 still unclaimed) and the marvellous support of the staff and students of the college who worked to make the evening a success.

Funds raised by the Blyth Branch of the RVI League of Friends have now topped the £60,000 mark – this magnificent sum has been raised over the 45 years that the branch has been in existence and has over all of those years been used by the hospital to provide items which make an unenviable stay in hospital that much more comfortable.

My grateful thanks to you all.
