Staff and regulars at a popular pub are celebrating after it was named one of the best in the country.
The Hastings, in Seaton Delaval, was nominated in two categories at The Great British Pub Awards – Best Turnaround Pub and Best Partnership Pub.
And landlords Peter Evans and Paul Thompson were left overwhelmed after winning the Best Partnership Pub award at the ceremony in London, dubbed the ‘Oscars of the pub trade’.
They were one of only four north east pubs to be shortlisted, and the only entered in two categories.
Peter said: “We’re very proud of our team.
“Since the refurbishment, we have been transformed into a destination pub where people want to get good food, and we have a great team with an innovative menu. We have seen food sales increase six fold.
“Our plans now are to continue develop food sales and partake in charity work.”
The duo took on the pub in February 2014 with the help of a £180,000 joint refurbishment with Star Pubs & Bars.
They thanked Star Pubs and Heineken, as well as staff and customers for their continued support.
The pub is also a member of the North East England Chamber of Commerce, and say the support has been invaluable.
Chamber relationship manager Joanne Mclauchlin said: “I am so pleased for Peter and Paul. They have transformed The Hastings into a popular pub and have become key people in the community.
“This award is a true reflection of that work.
“They have a fantastic welcoming team too and a passion for developing and maintaining relationships within the local area.”
