A GOLD star rating has been awarded to a Bedlington pub for the quality and standard of its toilets.

The Red Lion, in Front Street West, was granted the accolade in the Loo of the Year Awards 2012, after inspectors made an unannounced visit to the pub earlier this year.

Toilets are graded from bronze to gold, with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

Judgements are made on décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

Pub manager Mark Streener said: “I am delighted with the award.

“Staff at the pub work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”
