Public consultation into war memorials

A public consultation has been launched to gather opinions about adding names to Blyth’s War Memorials.

This comes after Blyth Town Council received a number of enquiries from people who have discovered that their relatives are not on any of the memorials, even though they died serving their country.

Town Mayor Coun Bob Parker said: “It’s a difficult issue, knowing who should be included or not.

“The town council wants to know what the ex-service organisations and people think.”

The consultation will run until Wednesday, July 31.

Meanwhile, the town council’s planning and development committee has asked the town clerk to investigate the possibility of introducing a special planning regime for the town centre.

A report is anticipated to be considered at a meeting on Thursday, July 25.
