Youngsters from a Cramlington primary school experienced the chance of a lifetime recently by visiting the home of rugby union.

Shanklea Primary School’s Year4 children took part in a six-week training programme from Newcastle Falcons in the Tackling Numbers Programme, and then won a tournament to qualify to play before the Aviva Premiership final at Twickenham.

Headteacher Helen Brown said: “This opportunity for the Shanklea’s Year 4 rugby team to visit Twickenham is an amazing achievement.

“To have the experience to play in front of 8 2,000 spectators is impressive.

“The atmosphere was electric and the pupils were justifiably proud of playing rugby on the famous pitch like the professionals.

“It was an inspiring opportunity for the Year 4 pupils who showed real tenacity and exemplary sporting skills.

“Thank you to Newcastle Falcons who kindly sponsored the school’s travel arrangements to London.”
