Nearly 300 boxes of Christmas gifts are on their way to needy children thanks to the generosity of families at a Blyth school.
Students at Bede Academy have collected the record-breaking amount of shoeboxes filled with small gifts to bring some festive cheer following a promotional campaign by sixth formers.
The boxes will be distributed by Blythswood Care, a charity that combines the Christian message with practical help for those in need in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.
Teacher Victoria Carr said: “Year 12 students went around the tutor groups and explained the appeal then kept a running total of the top three tutor groups who had collected the most.”
“They produced posters and did notices in assemblies and Ellen Calder even dressed up as a giant shoebox.”
