A Cramlington youngster is urging people to sign up as organ donors to help save lives.
While people in Northumberland are looking forward to spending Christmas with their loved ones and exchanging gifts, 21 people in Northumberland who are on the waiting list for a transplant will be hoping they will soon get the gift of an organ.
This December, NHS Blood and Transplant is running the Christmas List campaign, to draw attention to the thousands of people who are waiting for a transplant across the UK and to encourage everyone to join the NHS Organ Donor Register.
Rachel Hooley from Cramlington, was given the gift of life with a new heart at the Freeman in February 2012.
She has gone on to take part in the British Transplant Games and the World Winter Transplant Games, and with her sister Kate, has set up Hearts That Matter UK to raise money for the Freeman.
Mum Eve said: “Christmas means being a complete family and making special memories – these are memories that would not have been possible were it not for organ donation.”
Visit www.organdonation.nhs.uk, call 0300 123 23 23 or text SAVE to 62323 to sign the organ donor register.
