Major refurbishment is under way to transform a pub in Holywell.

Work has started on the £80,000 refurbishment of The Milbourne Arms with Star Pubs & Bars, Heineken’s pub business, transforming it into a country pub.

And pub lessee Sue Peters is investing £27,000 in new fixtures and fittings.

As well as smartening and updating the interior, a new catering kitchen is being installed to allow the pub to offer food for the first time – creating two chef jobs in the process.

The pub will reopen on April 3 with traditional pub food being served from April 7. A selection of teas, coffees, cakes and pastries will also be available.

Sue said: “I fell in love with The Milbourne Arms the moment I saw it as I could see its potential. I’ve been here for almost a year-and-a-half and now feel like a villager.

“With Star Pubs & Bars support, I’m now able to take The Milbourne Arms to the next level.”

Chris Jowsey, trading director of Star Pubs & Bars, said: “We’re delighted to be helping Sue turn around The Milbourne Arms and give Holywell a propery country inn providing some of the best pub food and beer in the area.”

He added: “It’s tough running a pub with increasing competition for consumer’s disposable income.

“To be successful in today’s market, pubs must improve their offering to customers and this means investing in pubs like The Milbourne Arms to create a welcoming and relevant environment for all customers.”
