The Lord Lieutenants of Northumberland Meritorious Service Awards Ceremony took place recently at the Army Reserve Centre in Blyth.
The ceremony, hosted by 203 (Elswick) Battery on behalf of the North of England Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (RFCA), was attended by Her Majesty’s Vice Lord Lieutenant, Colonel AAE Glenton CBE TD DL; the Mayor of Blyth, Coun Margaret Parker; Northumberland County Council’s Civic Head, Coun Kath Nisbet, and Armed Forces Champion, Dave Ledger; Commander 4th Infantry Brigade, Brigadier GM Strickland DSO MBE; Commanding Officer, 101st (Northumbrian) Regiment Royal Artillery, Lieutenant Colonel SG Grant; The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Band and family and friends of the recipients.
During the ceremony, the Vice Lord Lieutenant inspected the honour guard from 203 (Elswick) Battery commanded by Sergeant Mark Ferron and presented Lord Lieutenant Certificates for Meritorious Service, Master Cadet Certificates in Northumbria Cadet Force, Army Cadet Force Four Star Proficiency Certificates, BTEC Level 2 Diplomas in teamwork and personal development and music in Durham and Northumberland Wing Air Training Corps and a Commandant’s Special Commendation.
The Vice Lord Lieutenant said: “These ceremonies are very important because they are an opportunity to recognise the commitment and outstanding achievements of so many reservists, cadet adult volunteers and others who work tirelessly in our communities in Northumberland and it is a special treat for me to welcome the families, friends and employers who have come to support those receiving certificates and awards.”
Colonel Glenton then thanked the Commanding Officer, 101st (Northumbrian) Regiment Royal Artillery, Lieutenant Colonel Sean Grant, and the Battery Commander, 203 (Elswick) Battery, Major Simon Jackson, for their hospitality in hosting the event and the 5th Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Band for their excellent musical programme which helped make the evening a particularly special affair.
He concluded: “Ladies and gentlemen, I am deeply grateful to all of you for making this occasion one I will long remember and I hope that you have enjoyed this evening.”
