Restaurant is set to spice up competition

With a little help from the good folks of Wansbeck I have found the local South Asian restaurant to represent our constituency in a competition to find the best curry house in the country.

A few weeks ago I invited constituents to help me select my entry into the Tiffin Cup, a friendly rivalry bit of fun between Westminster MPs, which will culminate with the winner being presented with the trophy by our Commons’ Speaker John Bercow.

I asked constituents to nominate their favourite Wansbeck Asian eatery, and I am delighted to say that the one that received the most votes was the Ashianna in Bedlington’s Front Street.

I have submitted the name of the restaurant to the judging panel that will now select a shortlist of ten from across the country from which the eventual winner will be chosen.

As I said, it is a friendly challenge and a welcome break from the more formal business conducted by the Commons.

However, there is a serious side to the competition and that is to support the World Vision charity that speaks out for children affected by injustice and poverty.

So good luck to the Ashianna – a popular choice if the very favourable comments about the restaurant on social media sites are anything to go by.
