Rewarded for going extra mile

Nominations are being sought for awards recognising people who go that extra mile in their community.

Entries for the annual Homes for Northumberland (HfN), Spirit of the Community Awards are now open.

Now in its fourth year, the awards recognise Northumberland County Council tenants who have helped other residents who have made a difference to others.

There are five overall categories this year, including Good Neighbour, sponsored by John Flowers Ltd, Getting Involved, sponsored by John Ingleford Ltd, Best Community Group, sponsored by Hodgson Sayers, Garden of the Year, sponsored by Potts Print UK, and Young Person of the Year, sponsored by MKM Building Supplies.

And, for the first time, this year the Garden of the Year and Young Person of the Year awards have a number of sub-categories, with the winner from each one going on to compete against each other to be named category winner.

Deadline for entries is Saturday, February 28, 2015, and all entries will then be judged by a panel of tenants with the winners announced at a ceremony at the Holiday Inn, Seaton Burn on March 25.

Applications forms are available from a Homes for Northumberland office, local community centre or neighbourhood liaison officer, or by calling (01670) 542424.
