Roadworks on the A1 in Northumberland this week

Highways England is planning the following roadworks on the A1 this week, starting today.

Morpeth: There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night-time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24-hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

Westmoor to Newton on the Moor: There will be a carriageway closure north and southbound today (Monday, June 6) and tomorrow (Tuesday, June 7) between 9pm and 7am with diversions in place. Following on from this there will be a 24-hour contraflow in place north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until mid-July.

Berwick: There will be a lane closure in place north and southbound for survey work. This will take place until Friday (June 10) between 9am and 4pm.

For those travelling this week, here are the other roadworks planned on major roads elsewhere in the North East:

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar: There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From today (Monday, June 6) to Sunday (June 12) the carriageway will be closed northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead: Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. From today (Monday, June 6) to Friday (June 10) there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 70, and southbound between junctions 69 and 67. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by early summer 2016.

A1M junctions 60 to 61, County Durham: There will be a carriageway closure northbound on Saturday (June 11) followed by a southbound carriageway closure on Sunday (June 12) for structural maintenance work. Both these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place. There will then be a contraflow in place north and southbound every night between 8pm and 6am with daytime 50mph speed restriction and hard shoulder running. This will take place until mid-August.

A194M Follingsby Interchange, Gateshead: There will be a lane closure north and southbound for construction work. This will take place from today (Monday, June 6) to Monday, June 20, between 8.30am and 4.30pm. A66 Blands Corner to Blackwell, Darlington, County Durham: There will be a carriageway closure east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until tomorrow (Tuesday, June 7) between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. There will also be a 40mph speed restriction in place during the daytime.

A696 Woolsington Interchange, Newcastle: There will be a lane closure in place northbound for improvement work. This will take place until Friday, June 17, between 8am and 6pm.
