ASHINGTON’S Roly Sanderson was rewarded for 27 years of fundraising for local good causes with the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch in his home town of Ashington this morning.
Despite continuous rain, large crowds turned out to cheer Roly and his fellow torch bearers through the town’s streets.
Roly, 60, was nominated by his employer Rio Tinto Alcan to carry the torch after he had raised more than £130,000 over the years by doing marathons and half marathons.
