Roundabouts will not help

I am writing regarding the proposal to improve the traffic problems from the Bebside Asda junction and Cowpen Road (News Post Leader, May 29).

As a resident of the estate opposite Asda, I see on a daily basis the traffic problems.

Years ago when Blyth Community College was built, Chase Farm Drive was left with a dead end, why was it not attached to Cowpen Farm and Newsham Farm?

Surely this would alleviate some of the congestion. But this never happened and instead hundreds of more houses have been built with the only access being the Asda roundabout off Cowpen Road.

More roundabouts are not going to help, if anything it will make it worse as most drivers just cut in and don’t use the lanes correctly.

I think the best solution would be to try and link Chase Farm Drive to Tynedale Drive and Newsham Farm, that way people wanting to travel to Asda and the schools would not have to use Cowpen Road.

I will be interested to see what the council comes up with, but I know that this is a very important matter for residents of the nearby areas and commuter.

Something should have been done about this years ago.
