A runner from south east Northumberland is preparing to take on the Great North Run to raise funds for a charity close to his heart.
Paul Johnson from Cramlington, will be taking on the half marathon on September 13, to raise funds for Diabetes UK.
Paul, 48, who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for over 40 years joined Team Diabetes UK to raise awareness of the condition that both his brother and son live with too.
“Living with diabetes does not need to mean you can’t live your life to the full and as well as raising money for Diabetes UK, I want to raise awareness of diabetes and that people with the condition can achieve what anybody else can.
“I know I can do it and physically I’m as fit as anybody else, it will just be about keeping an eye on my blood glucose levels.”
His wife, Chantal also completed the Edinburgh marathon last year, raising over £1,000 for the charity.
Lara Dobson from Diabetes UK, said: “We’re really grateful to Paul for joining Team Diabetes UK and raising vital funds to help people living with diabetes.”
