Fundraisers are preparing to step out this weekend to help raise money as part of a national initiative.

Hundreds of people have already signed up to Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Newbiggin on Sunday.

Competitors will have a choice to run one, three or six miles.

Sam Moore, one of the organisers, said: “We are delighted that so many people have already signed up but we want even more people in Newbiggin to take part and make it the best Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile yet.

“So let’s show the rest of the country what we can do and raise as much money as we possibly can for this incredible cause.”

This year’s Mile will take place along Newbiggin promenade with everyone meeting near the band stand.

Staff and students will be running a mile on Friday.

And 23 members of staff are completing a ‘Virtual Spinning’ spinning class at Ashington Leisure Centre from 4.30pm to 5.30pm on Thursday.

Pupils will also spend time in the classroom learning more about Sport Relief and the issues facing children around the world.
