Scheme will tackle violent behaviour

A new programme aimed at tackling violent behaviour in offenders is being launched by Northumbria Probation Trust.

The initiative, called Resolve, will target men who have been convicted of violent offences, which can include physical violence, intimidation, blackmail or criminal damage.

The trust will then work to reduce the likelihood of repeat offending.

Offenders will be required to complete the programme as part of a community order or suspended prison sentence.

Anne Francis, from Northumbria Probation Trust, said: “We are pleased to offer this programme, which will help to reduce repeat offending amongst violent offenders.”

“The programme challenges violent behaviour and attitudes, and is based on violence and aggression research.

“One of the most important aspects is a more personalised approach, so probation staff can develop a greater understanding of the individual, their goals for the future and the things that get in the way of behaviour change.

“If we can help someone to understand their own behaviour and what they need to change, this goes along way towards reducing reoffending.”
