A group of sea cadets from south east Northumberland have been named the joint winners of a national award.
The junior section of the Ashington Sea Cadets unit spent a fun filled weekend with the Barrow Sea Cadets to officially receive the Cleverly Award for 2014.
Ashington and Barrow were joint winners of the award which is presented annually to the junior cadet unit who gain the most new qualifications in their junior section, take part in the highest number of community related activities over the year, spend the most amount of time taking part in water activities over the year i.e sailing, rowing or canoeing, and who enter the highest number of competitions organised by the regional sea cadet organisation.
Chief Petty Officer Pauline Findlay said: “I am particularly proud of the junior section of the unit as not only did they win this award, but 2014 saw them win the national Sea Cadet colours competition for the third year in a row.”
