MORE than 300 people from across the region have been given a sneak peek of a new landmark near Cramlington.

Residents and representatives of community organisations have been given a close-up look at the 100ft-high Northumberlandia earth sculpture now nearing completion on the Blagdon Estate.

The estate and developer the Banks Group are investing around £3m in the creation of the giant artwork, set to form the centrepiece of a 47-acre public park.

Bob Downer, chief executive of the estate, said: “We’re thrilled at the excitement and enthusiasm generated by everything that our guests saw on site.”

Katie Perkin, communications manager for the Banks Group, added: “The final elements of landscaping work are continuing, and we’re looking forward to opening the site up when everything’s complete.”
