Service for war heroes
Second World War veterans from Northumberland were honoured at a poignant Armed Forces Week ceremony.
The heroes have all been awarded the Légion d’Honneur for their courageous acts during D-Day or as part of the wider campaigns to liberate France from the Nazis.
Robert Fenwick, 92, from Seghill, was among the honoured men who attended last week’s service at County Hall in Morpeth. He served in the British Army from 1942 to 1948.
As part of the ceremony, civic head of Northumberland County Council Alan Sambrook paid tribute to the Armed Forces and raised the Armed Forces Flag.
