Shoppers help raise NSPCC cash

Shoppers at a county Spar store have helped raise almost half a million pounds for the NSPCC.

The Spar store on Meadowfield in Ashington, has contributed to SPAR UK’s fantastic total of £493,325 raised for the NSPCC in 2014/15 through in-store collections, sponsored activities and seasonal fundraising events, helping to support the vital work carried out by the ChildLine Schools Service.

The Schools Service uses specially trained volunteers to talk to primary school children about abuse.

The sessions are tailored to the age range of those in the group, with topics covered in an age-appropriate, easy to understand way.

Debbie Robinson, Spar UK managing director, said: “As a business, we are passionate about supporting the Schools Service, which provides advice and support to thousands of children and young people.

“I am really impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of employees at Spar stores, distribution centres and offices across the country to raise money for the NSPCC.

“We are looking forward to supporting the great work the charity does into 2016.”

Maribeth Lloyds, NSPCC fundraising manager, added: “Spar is an amazing supporter , and we’re always really impressed with the way both staff and customers are keen to get stuck in to fundraising activities.”
