Youngsters in Newbiggin are celebrating after a state-of-the-art outdoor facility has been officially opened.

Following almost two years of consultation, fundraising and construction, the official launch of the £92,000 Newbiggin Skate Park took place during the school holidays.

The town mayor, Will Rogers, thanked Newbiggin Town Council, partners and the young people for their contribution towards the project before Override BMX and scooter team provided an excellent display for local children.

Coun Rogers said: “This is a tremendous state of the art Skate Park that local youngsters can use freely throughout the year and has been well received.

“The town council is grateful for all of the contributions to the scheme.”

Additional activities were provided by Blyth Valley Arts & Leisure on the adjacent Multi Use Games Area which has also been refurbished by the town council.

Design and construction was carried out by local company RHD Construction and Environmental Contractors of Cramlington.

The Skate Park has been funded by various sources including NCC housing developer fund, Newbiggin Town Council, local county councillor ward scheme and SITA Trust who provided £58,000 towards the project through the Landfill Communities Fund.

BVAL now have plans to organise activity days at the facility during the Easter and Summer holidays.
