This is the point where, traditionally, Vikings would turn over their skiffs and start working on the inside – marking it with a short ceremony which a village elder would oversee.

Residents of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea have been working on this project, funded by the Newbiggin Town Team, and still have much to do as they make the seating, oars, rudder and complete the finishing touches before the boat can be launched.

The informal sessions have been well attended by a variety of people; young, old, male, female, skilled and unskilled.

Residents are still welcome to come along. They run on Tuesdays, 6pm to 9pm, at The Elizabethan Hall.
