Skipping is a success
Energetic pupils in Cramlington have an extra spring in their step after triumphing in a skipping competition.
A total of 30 Year 5 pupils at Cragside Primary School recently took part in the annual Northumberland Skipping Festival.
Nine local schools competed in the event at Blyth Sports Centre last month, with more than 270 children showing off their skipping skills.
The youngsters were put through their paces as judges marked on individual ability, awarding points for everything from speed to bounce to butterfly.
Teams were also invited to put their talents to the test in a group skip dance.
The Cragside team’s training showed as all 30 pupils performed as one in a fabulous routine to music by the Black Eyed Peas.
And their tireless practice days paid off as the school won the overall event, as well as picked up a certificate for creativity.
Year 5 teacher Laura-Beth Mayhew said: “It was a great success.”
