Life at a rugby club has been snapped by a world-renowned photographer for an exhibition highlighting life in the community.
Cramlington Rockets was one of five projects to feature in the exclusive project, Community Spirit – A Digital Exhibition by Martin Parr.
Martin was commissioned to mark the launch of the 2016 Aviva Community Fund.
Cramlington Rockets were selected for the work it does encouraging young people to get involved in rugby league.
Martin’s shoot with the club captures the Aviva Cup, a tournament arranged by Cramlington Rockets for over 400 local primary school children which was made possible by funding from Aviva.
Steve Beaty, of Cramlington Rockets, said: “Our key goals for the club are: Respect, Commitment and Fun.
“We have some amazing people involved in the club who work so hard to make a difference to the lives of the children in the local area.
“We are thrilled with the reception the club has received from the local community and how much it has benefitted the community so far.
“It was great to have Martin photograph the tournament.” Hopefully those in the area that see the great photos will be inspired to pick up a rugby ball themselves.”
Martin said: “It was a privilege to meet and photograph the inspiring people behind Cramlington Rockets and the children who came to enjoy the tournament. Hundreds of kids suddenly poured onto the school grounds, it was great to see.”
“It was also very muddy which I really liked as mud makes for a great photograph.
“When photographing an event, I look to capture the energy of the attendees. The enthusiasm these kids have for the sport they love made that very easy.”
