Society set to open a unique Dementia Café

A new service for people with a recent diagnosis of dementia is being launched by Alzheimer’s Society next week in Ashington.

The new Dementia Café will provide an opportunity for people with the illness, their families and friends to socialise and to receive support from each other and the society team.

Dementia support worker Susan Small said: “It is a much needed new service for people who are living with dementia in Northumberland.

“It will provide the opportunity to meet with other people and to enjoy a relaxed friendly afternoon where the emphasis will be on fun and enjoyment.”

Fellow dementia support worker Lisa Mollett added: “The Dementia Café will be the perfect setting for people with dementia, their family and friends to relax and have a chat over a cuppa with other people who are in similar situations.

“This will also be a chance to get professional help.”

The Ashington Dementia Café will be in operation from Tuesday, October 1.

It will then be open on the first Tuesday of each month from 1.30pm to 3pm at the Age UK Northumberland premises, The Round House, Ashington.

This is a free service, and free parking and refreshments are available.
