More than £1,600 has been raised for St Oswald’s Hospice thanks to the Jobcentre Plus team in Ashington.
The funds were raised in memory of colleague Andrea Fenwick, who died in June of last year.
She worked with the disability employment advisor (DEA) but died aged 39.
Diane West, DEA manager, said: “When Andrea sadly passed away, all the staff at the Ashington Jobcentre Plus felt they wanted to do something in her memory and raise funds for St Oswald’s.
“We decided to do a sponsored walk from Ashington Jobcentre Plus to Bedlington Jobcentre Plus one morning before work.
“Andrea was very well known throughout the district and staff from all over the north east sponsored us or made donations to the hospice.”
Milly Wanless, who also works at the Ashington site, suggested the event and the group then continued to raise money with cake sales in the staff room.
Danielle Neighbour, fundraiser at St Oswald’s, said: “We are so grateful to the Jobcentre Plus for their support because we just wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the support of the local community.”
