Newbiggin-by-the-Sea Town Council’s application to the county council to designate the civil parish of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea as a neighbourhood area, with the express purpose of preparing a neighbourhood development plan, has been approved.

As well as addressing a range of planning issues, it would emphasise the objectives of the Wansbeck District Plan.

The plan would particularly deal with the following objectives: regenerate communities demonstrating housing market problems and to widen housing choice, protect and improve the quality of the environment, conserve and enhance the diversity of wildlife species and habitats, ensure that needs for open space, recreation and other community facilities can be met, enhance the character and distinctiveness of individual settlements and prevent them merging.

The town council will put together an application for Government funding to help with developing the plan later this year.
