Store staff closing in on their marathon challenge

Staff at a Blyth store are more than two-thirds of the way to their fundraising target in a marathon challenge.

Team members at the Wilko store, in Bowes Street, have raised £2,200 so far for Macmillan Cancer Support by running a half marathon every day since May 1.

Keen to go that extra mile, the team has set itself a target to raise £3,000, before the end on Saturday, May 31.

Staff have been jogging on an in-store treadmill and are aiming to run 406 miles, a distance which is the equivalent of running from Blyth to Germany.

Now they are hoping local customers will visit over the last few days to cheer them on and make a small donation to Macmillan.

Wilko store manager, Rob Donachie, said: “We are so grateful to everyone who has donated at the store; they’ve been super supportive and we’re lucky to have such loyal customers.

“I’m really proud of the team here for putting in the effort to run each day, this is a fantastic activity to kick off our year with Macmillan Cancer Support and I’m certain we can hit that £3,000 target.”
