Store staff raise more than £4,000 for charity

STAFF at a Cramlington supermarket have collected in more than £4,000 for Comic Relief.

Employees at Sainsbury’s raised £4,100 from this year’s Red Nose Day activities through a series of events including bake and book sales, a charity gig, and sponsored silences.

The store’s most successful fundraising activity saw the managers sitting in custard for two hours.

Organiser Amanda Raimes said: “We’re delighted. I really enjoyed putting the event together and it turned out to be such a great hit, with lots of people generously donating money.”

Joanne Tasker, Comic Relief sponsorship manager at Sainsbury’s, added: “We’re very proud of our customers and colleagues who pulled out all the stops to make this year’s Red Nose Day the biggest and best yet.

“Our partnership with Comic Relief has been going strong since 1999, raising an incredible £58m so far.”
