A three-year programme to replace more than 40,000 streetlights across Northumberland is nearing completion.
Northumberland County Council is entering the final stages of an initiative to replace the lights with more efficient LED bulbs.
The scheme also involves the replacement of 16,000 columns.
To date, around 32,000 new units have been installed, with the rest of the work to be completed by the summer.
It is expected to produce energy savings of around 64 per cent, the equivalent of £1.3m a year.
Council member for environment and local services Glen Sanderson said: “This has been an extremely ambitious project, which has presented a number of technical challenges, which our teams have been working tirelessly to overcome.”
