Youngsters at a county school have been getting tips for their new radio station from a local reporter.

Anna Harding, who reads the news on Heart Breakfast, Smooth Radio and Capital, was invited to St Benedict’s Roman Catholic Middle School in Ashington to answer some tricky questions about news reporting.

The school has taken part in an enrichment afternoon where all the pupils have a decision in deciding which activity to do during Friday afternoons, including drama, newspapers, model-making, photography, cooking, board games, eco-warriors, football and radio.

Teaching assistant Margaret Ayre said: “I asked the newsreader if she would be willing to come and give the children of St Benedict’s a hand with their expertise in news reporting.

“It really was a fabulous afternoon for all of the children concerned.”
