Students trained in spa techniques
Active Northumberland is working with Northumberland College to help two local students gain work experience in the beauty industry.
The Tranquillity Spa in Ashington Leisure Centre is supporting two newly qualified Level 2 students, Katrina Gilmore and Tyler Richell, progress to their Level 3 in beauty therapy.
As part of their course, the girls are required to find a placement in a professional salon to gain an insight into a real work environment.
The girls have been attending the spa for the past month, bringing along models to practice all their qualified treatments on. They are also learning about the other aspects of running the spa including its online booking system, reception duties, cleaning and laundry.
Emily Cape, spa manager said: “The girls have been fantastic and we are happy to be able to support and nurture local talent and help these two students develop their future careers. They are gaining invaluable experience and once they feel 100 per cent confident we will be putting exclusive discounted offers on for our customers to get beauty treatments from them.”
Ashington Leisure Centre has one of the most luxurious thermal spa facilities in the county boasting a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, aromatherapy room, monsoon showers, heated benches, foot spas and an ice feature.
In addition there are three fabulous treatment rooms, a dedicated tanning room, manicure and pedicure bays with a team of great therapists.
Active Northumberland members can get unlimited access to the spa by purchasing a £15 monthly spa bolt on to their membership, via the Active Northumberland app, through www.activenorthumberland.org.uk , visiting an Active Northumberland leisure centre, or by ringing 01670 542222 .
