A Northumberland brewery has struck gold at a prestigious national awards ceremony.

Anarchy Brewery’s ‘Sublime Chaos’ won the National Gold Award in the Premium Strong Beer category at the Society of Independent Brewers Awards held in Sheffield.

The 7.0% ABV breakfast stout, brewed at Anarchy’s site in Stannington, will now go forward to the Great British Beer Competition to be held in London in August.

Anarchy Brewery was formed in 2012 by husband and wife team Simon and Dawn Miles.

Simon said: “We’re thrilled to have one of our beers gain this national recognition and I am especially pleased that our team’s hard work has paid off.

“We think Sublime Chaos is a great beer but when independent judges agree and when it beats off strong competition from across the UK, you know you’re doing something right.”

Sublime Chaos is one of 13 beers currently being brewed by Anarchy.

The beer is described as a dark, voluptuous stout infused with Ethiopian Guji natural coffee beans, balanced with New Zealand hops.

Dawn added: “Sublime Chaos came through the regional qualifying competitions winning the gold for the north east against 300 beers from across the UK, enabling it to get through to the finals.

“There has been a lot of hard work put into setting up and running this brewery but with awards such as this one we can look forward to a successful future.”
