Pupils from a Northumberland academy have shown off their engineering talent by making it through to a national competition.

Students from The Blyth Academy will compete as part of a squad of 25 schools nationally that was awarded £3,000 of Lego Mindstorms equipment under the Elite Engineering Programme for Schools (EEP).

The Lego Mindstorms series of kits contains software and hardware to create customisable, programmable robots, together with an intelligent brick computer which controls the system and a set of modular sensors and motors plus Lego parts from the Technics line.

The pupils will now compete in the competition in Manchester on June 17.
