Supermarket chooses Lions as its charity

The Morpeth Lions Club has been given a welcome casg boost thanks to a Cramlington supermarket.

Although originating in Morpeth, the Lions Club covers a wider area including both Cramlington and Ashington.

Asda in Cramlingtonhelped the Lions Club by setting up a trolley collection for toys which the Lions Club distributes to families in need at Christmas.

Asda also supported the Lions through its charity token system given to customers when making purchases in store, where the charity was chosen by customers as one of the three to receive a £50 cheque.

Finally, staff at the supermarket took part in a raffle where the money raised was split between the three charities.

After Christmas Lion president Geoff Bushell went to the store, accompanied by Lion John Gray to collect cheques for £50 from the token scheme and a further £57 from the raffle, given by the store’s Dorothy Lang.

Lion Geoff Bushell said: “The Lions are delighted to have been chosen by Asda Cramlington for the token scheme and raffle.

“I would like to give heartfelt thanks to all those staff and customers involved.”
