Surplus food does not go to waste

The Old Ash Dene in Ashington provided a free lunch for 40 beneficiaries and partners working with the Full Circle Food Project charity.

Some of the 40 people who enjoyed a free lunch at The Old Ash Dene pub in Ashington.

The pub had surplus food left following a busy period and wanted to donate a meal to a good cause.

Full Circle Food Project – based in Hirst Welfare, Ashington – provides engagement and learning opportunities for communities via a variety of Grow Cook Feed grant-funded initiatives.

Project manager Vanessa Proudlock said: “It was a great opportunity for all of the various groups we work with to get together, celebrate their efforts and enjoy a three-course meal.

“We were delighted to accept this kind donation from The Old Ash Dene and we look forward to working with the pub again in the future.

The Old Ash Dene raises awareness for local charities.

Manager Jacqui Miller said: “We were very pleased to be able to offer the local community a meal that would have gone to waste otherwise.

“We fully intend to do this for other groups in the future and also support local residents in need with our charity nights.”

Full Circle Food Project currently has a number of volunteer opportunities available.

It is particularly keen to hear from those with woodworking and Wordpress website experience, as well as experienced vegetable gardeners.
