Take part in nippy dip in aid of charity

A lifeboat station is looking for people to take part in a Boxing Day dip to raise funds for charity.

Newbiggin RNLI are this year inviting people to be part of the Newbiggin Nippy Dip on Boxing Day where they are hoping to attract a large contingent of hardy souls to escape the Christmas excesses and in the process raise some money for charity in this festive frolic in the sea.

The ‘Dip’ was initially launched and run successfully by the Ashington Lions since the 1980s where it has grown into an established Newbiggin event that is watched by hundreds of locals and visitors alike as part of their annual festive celebrations.

The RNLI are continuing this Boxing Day tradition but in addition to the ‘Dip’ they will be having ‘fancy dress’ and sandcastle competitions on the beach to create a memorable fun filled family event.

The Boxing Day ‘Dip’ will get underway on Newbiggin beach with a mass dash into the sea at 11am with the brave souls wearing a mixture of fancy dress or summer swimwear.

Prospective competitors can register their interest at Newbiggin lifeboat station or call 07802 155509 for more information.
