Tasty treat from restaurant takes flight
A Northumberland couple could well have made the longest ever delivery of fish and chips to give a family member a taste of home.
Jo Curle and husband Jamie from Blyth are regular diners at The Harbour View restaurant in Seaton Sluice. It is famed for its huge portions and the takeaway side often has large queues.
Joyce, Jo’s mother, left Blyth over 20 years ago for a new life on the Greek island of Corfu. She became a fan of the tasty treat at the restaurant on her last visit to the region.
Her daughter decided to experiment with her takeaway food by storing it in the fridge and then reheating it the next day.
To her delight, the food tasted just as fresh as it was when it was originally served, giving Jo the idea to send a takeaway to her mother more than 1,000 miles away.
The couple then researched the regulations and discovered that there were no rules about importing fish and chips into Greece.
Jo said: “A day before we went to Corfu, we bought two takeaway fish and chip portions and refrigerated them. The next day, we packed them into our suitcases after wrapping them in plastic bags.
“Once we arrived at my mother’s, we reheated them and the four of us enjoyed a real taste of home.”
