A school’s rugby team has finished third in a national competition.
Astley Community High School’s Year 11 girls are the best north east team after coming third at the national Rugby Football League Champion Schools Competition.
The girls beat local schools Whitley Bay High, Burnside and Churchill in the local rounds.
They then emerged victorious with a 52-30 win in the regional final against Whitburn at Kingston Park, securing their place at national finals day.
The six winning regional teams from across the country competed at the national finals competition in Dewsbury.
And the Astley Year 11 girls finished third place overall.
