Three is the magic number for Blyth
Spartans made it three 3-0 wins in a week as they comfortably saw off the threat of Bradford Park Avenue in front of a bumper crowd of 806 at Croft Park on Saturday.
Dale Hopson opened the scoring when he coolly slotted home a penalty in the 14th minute after Dan Maguire was brought down by the ‘keeper.
Jarrett Rivers doubled the lead just before the interval when Robbie Dale cut the ball back to him and Dale Hopson wrapped the scoring up when he calmly slipped home the third after a break by Dale.
The win followed earlier 3-0 victories over Tamworth (away) and Brackley Town (home) the previous Saturday.
Meanwhile, there have been a few coming and goings at Spartans over the past week.
Centre half Joe Gorman joined the Northumbrians from South Midlands League Premier Division side Biggleswade United.
Gorman was previously with Scottish League side Airdrionians and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Manager Alun Armstrong is delighted with his signing claiming: “Other teams in our league were interested in his so it is testament to the club that he has come here.
“He’s left sided, so adds a nice balance to the side. He’s athletic and good on the ball, which is the main thing, as that’s how we like to play.”
The 23 year-old is a former Republic of Ireland youth international.
Two other players, striker Greg Rutherford and midfielder Dylan McGlade have left the club, however.
Rutherfoird arrived after a spell with Berwick Rangers and the 23 year-old scored seven goals in 16 appearances.
Armstrong said as he tried to bring in fresh faces Rutherford and McGlade were obvious players to move on as both were on non-contractual terms.
McGlade, 22, made six appearances for Spartans following his arrival from Longford Town.
Armstroing said he would have liked to put McGlade out on loan to another club but a lot of sides were restricted by their budgets.
“I would like to thank both Greg and Dylan for all their efforts for Blyth and wish them the best of luck in the future,” said Armstrong.
