Tourism body ranked top for social media

VisitNorthumberland has been ranked number one in the north east in the first English Tourism Social Media Index.

The index is a league table which grades regional tourism bodies in England according to social-media performance by their official channels.

Of the 126 tourism bodies analysed, 32 are counties and a further 94 are towns, cities and regions within nine areas of England.

VisitNorthumberland ranked sixth in the county index and 16th out of 126 overall.

Produced by social-media agency Umpf, in association with Travel Weekly and HolidayLettings.co.uk, the Index measures the social-media performance of each tourism body.

Jude Leitch, general manager of Northumberland Tourism, said: “We’re delighted with this result. Social media is hugely important to our digital strategy for Northumberland, and an invaluable way for us to engage with tourists, businesses and Northumbrian residents working hard to promote the county.

“We’re really pleased to have been recognised for all of our efforts.”
