Tours look to promote the county

A series of one-day familiarisation trips are on offer to help Northumberland businesses who come into contact with tourists to expand their knowledge of the county.

The trips cost £10 and are aimed at anyone linked to the tourism and leisure industry – from attractions and accommodation providers to shopkeepers, taxi drivers or restaurant staff.

The ultimate aim is to enhance the visitor experience while in Northumberland, encourage people to spend more quality time in the county and hopefully make repeat visits.

The initiative is part of the Know your Northumberland programme of courses – a partnership project between Northumberland County Council and Northumberland College.

The accredited courses focus on learning about what is on in the county as well as the stories, traditions and culture in Northumberland.

They will cover seven different areas: south east Northumberland on February 26; Morpeth, Kirkley, Belsay and Wallington on March 4; Alnwick, Rothbury, Warkworth and Amble on March 11; the north coastal strip including Berwick on March 25; Kielder, Bellingham and Otterburn on April 3; Tyne Valley and Hadrian’s Wall Corridor on April 29; the North Pennines on May 8; and the Cheviots and uplands including Wooler on May 20.
