A town mayor has helped volunteers to pack bags of food for residents using a food bank.
Mayor of Ashington Ely Turnbull, visited Wansbeck Valley Foodbank to highlight the work of the charity, based at the Holy Sepulchre Church Hall on Station Road.
The Wansbeck Foodbank provides food for people struggling to cope, and has provided over 7,000 days of food to local residents.
Coun Turnbull said: “I’m pleased to support the work of the Wansbeck Valley Foodback as they do a great work for those in genuine need in Ashington as well as nearby communities.
“The work of the Foodbank is very much valued by residents in Ashington and the Town Council is pleased to highlight and support the work of the organisation in our town.”
The charity is looking for more volunteers to help with their work, and is particularly keen to hear from anyone who would like to work as a volunteer driver.
