Town will be all lit up tonight

The Christmas lights will be switched on in Ashington tonight (Thursday).

The event will feature a series of activities planned for the pedestrianised area on Station Road in the run-up to the switch-on.

Activities include a festive market selling good quality food and gifts.

Music will be presented by Metro Radio and local choirs as well as performances from dance groups.

There will also be children’s rides, face painting as well as characters from the hit Disney film Frozen.

There will be magical entertainment with Chris Cross and Father Christmas will also make an appearance.

A free family workshop will also be hosted by BAIT.

Ashington football legend Jack Charlton OBE and Sir John Hall will be joining the celebrations for the official switch-on together with Rod Clements, Dave Hull-Denholm and Ian Thompson from Lindisfarne and there will be an opportunity to sing along to a few famous tunes on the night.

Activities start at 2pm and run until 7pm, with the switch-on scheduled to take place at 6.15pm.

The event has been jointly organised by Ashington Town Team and Ashington Town Council with support from Northumberland YMCA and Bait.
