A MOTORIST had a lucky escape after his car left the road and crashed into a wall.

Emergency services were called out late on Thursday, August 23, to the junction of Tynedale Drive and Dovetail Avenue in Blyth after reports of the crash.

A Mercedes S320 had been going along the road when the motorist lost control, the car coming to rest in the garden wall.

Eyewitnesses reported that moments earlier the car had been travelling at speed, colliding with traffic bollards, street lights and another vehicle.

Nearby residents had rushed out into the street when they heard the car hitting the wall, calling the emergency services and helping the driver.

Police officers found a 24-year-old man injured in the car, and he was taken to Newcastle’s RVI hospital for treatment where he was kept in for observations overnight.

The road was closed from 10.10pm to 2.30am today (Friday) while investigations were carried out and the debris removed.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
